Right after India became the part of WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control on February 27, 2005, the smoking has been completely banned in the public places with a few exceptions for the place like a bar, pub, airports etc.
In fact, the advertisement promoting smoking has been banned and a request to remove smoking areas from the airports and hotels are in talks as well.
Though it is a punishable offence if you smoke in the no smoking area, people just don’t seem to care. Even the police let them free after… you know.
I wish the people stop smoking in crowded places where the chances of one inhaling the smoke are high. There should be a smoking area and proper ventilation for the same.
The area made for smoking must be fully four-walled and separated from the main building. The entrance gate must have automatically closing doors and the building should have a good airflow system which directs air towards outside and it must not mix with any other buildings nearby. The building should have an exhaust ventilating system and air cleaning system. They should be installed in such a manner that air should not permeate into the non-smoking areas of the building.
What is more annoying is that India has the second most number of deaths through tobacco and the Indian women rank second in the global list of top countries having women smokers.
